Released in 2022 as part of the EUROPA “Stories and Myths” series, this beautiful collectible celebrates Lada, the ancient Slavic goddess associated with motherhood, spring, love and marriage.
In Slavic mythology, Lada is traditionally portrayed as a beautiful woman surrounded by roses and ears of grain — symbols of love, fertility, renewal and abundance. According to legend, she was the wife of Svarog and the mother of Lelya and Polel. Her name also appears in ancient Ukrainian spring ritual songs known as vesnianky.
About the Design
The stamp was created by Ukrainian artist Mykolai Kochubei, who incorporated ancient symbols into a modern composition. The design combines a festive women’s circle dance with symbolic forms inspired by the Svarga, while the double helix of DNA represents continuous movement, life and evolution.
The Lada issue was released together with the EUROPA Svarog – God Creator of the Universe stamp, creating a complementary pair celebrating important figures from ancient Slavic mythology.
