The Story Behind the Stamp Sheet
The story of “Love Is…” began not with postage stamps, but with a collection of tiny handmade Ukrainian characters.
Ukrainian artist Bohdan Savliuk created his Warm Toys project in Ivano-Frankivsk, bringing familiar elements of Ukrainian life to miniature form. His cheerful characters are inspired by Ukrainian Cossacks, Hutsuls, traditional clothing, food, music, humor and everyday traditions.
In 2019, Ukrposhta turned Savliuk’s warm and playful characters into a postage stamp series about love.
Rather than showing grand romantic gestures, the four designs celebrate the small things people do for someone they care about — singing a song, bringing flowers, sharing a drink, or treating someone to homemade varenyky.
That distinctly Ukrainian touch is what makes this stamp sheet so charming. Love here is expressed through food, music, flowers, care and simple acts of thoughtfulness.
