En un solemne reconocimiento a la valentía y los actos heroicos sin igual, Ucrania ha introducido la Cruz al Mérito Combatiente, un prestigioso galardón establecido por el Presidente de Ucrania el 5 de mayo de 2022. Este prestigioso premio se otorga a los militares de las Fuerzas Armadas de Ucrania y otras formaciones militares, en honor a quienes demuestran una valentía personal sobresaliente, coraje o un acto heroico extraordinario durante misiones de combate en condiciones que amenazan la vida y en enfrentamiento directo con el enemigo. También celebra el liderazgo excepcional al mando de tropas durante el personal militar.
La Cruz al Mérito Militar es un símbolo de honor y valor, diseñado con gran dedicación por Oleksandr Lezhnev. Está hecha de plata con un exquisito dorado y presenta una cruz equilátera recta, en cuyo centro se encuentra la insignia del estado principesco de Volodymyr el Grande, que simboliza el espíritu perdurable y el valor de los defensores de Ucrania.
Entre los primeros galardonados con esta condecoración militar se encuentran el general Valerii Zaluzhnyi, el capitán Vladyslav Kalievskyi, la sargento Dariia Mazurenko, el teniente general Yevhen Moysiuk y el coronel Oleksandr Okhrimenko. Sus actos de valentía y liderazgo ejemplifican las cualidades que se celebran con este premio.
El diseño de la Cruz al Mérito Militar fue elaborado por Oleksandr Lezhnev, mientras que a Volodymyr Taran se le atribuye la creación de la emisión postal relacionada.
