The “Good Evening, We Are From Ukraine!” W Series stamp sheet captures that spirit in one of Ukraine’s most recognizable wartime postage issues. Designed by Ukrainian artist Anastasiia Bondarets, the stamp depicts a Ukrainian tractor towing a Russian tank — an image that came to symbolize how ordinary Ukrainians found extraordinary ways to resist Russia’s invasion.

The phrase “Good Evening, We Are From Ukraine!” became part of everyday Ukrainian culture in 2022, heard in music, broadcasts, military communications, and conversations around the country. Ukrainians themselves chose the phrase as the subject for this historic stamp.

The W Series has an especially interesting feature for stamp collectors: it uses the tête-bêche technique, with one row of stamps printed upside down in relation to the other. This distinctive arrangement gives the sheet additional visual and philatelic interest. 

The Story Behind the Stamp

This was a postage stamp chosen by the Ukrainian people.

Ukrainians first selected “Good Evening, We Are From Ukraine!” from five proposed themes for the country's next wartime stamp.

Artists then submitted approximately 1,500 designs, and nearly 900,000 people participated in the public vote to choose the winner.

Anastasiia Bondarets' illustration received more than 340,000 votes. Her idea was simple but powerful: every Ukrainian, in whatever way they can, contributes to bringing Ukraine closer to victory. 

The stamp was released on July 28, 2022, with a total print run of 2 million stamps. Remarkably, around one-third of the entire issue sold within the first 24 hours. 

Why the Tractor?

During the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion, photographs and videos of Ukrainian farmers towing abandoned or captured Russian military vehicles with tractors spread around the world.

The unlikely image of an ordinary farm tractor pulling military equipment became a symbol of Ukrainian ingenuity and resistance — serious circumstances met with determination and humor.

Bondarets transformed that idea into an image that immediately resonated with Ukrainians.

What Does the W Series Mean?

Two versions of “Good Evening, We Are From Ukraine!” were issued:

M Series — intended for postal use within Ukraine
W Series — intended for international postal items.
